The National Celebration Events in Valmiera

  11th November (2019) - 18th November (2019)

101 years ago there was no such country as Latvia, although countless thoughts about it a long, long time ago had already become the root for the wonder of the formation of a country. Just like to the roots of you being born – your parents were waiting for you long before you were born. The day of birth begins with such roots of thoughts. We wish Latvia a lot of positive thoughts and accomplishments on her birthday!

„Lāčplēsis” day – 100th anniversary

The country was founded, but freedom was still to be fought for. 100 years ago, on Novemer 11, 1919, marked one of the most important victories during the Freedom battles – the Latvian Armed forces banished the Western volunteer army also known as the Bermondt troops from Rīga. These heroe’s thoughts about a free Latvia are the same thoughts we have. Legacy strong as Lāčplēsis. Honoring those, who have died in the battles and their relatives, we invite on November 11th, at 5:30PM, in the Valmiera St.Sīmanis church, to join the „Lāčplēšis” day prayer, but at 6PM to light candles and torches and go on a torch march, which will take place from the Valmiera town square up until the Central cemetery, where at 6:30PM there’ll be a moment of remembrance.
November 11th, 7:30PM, the “Lāčplēsis” day concert “Roks. Mīlestība. Brīvība.” (free entrance) will be held in the Valmiera Culture centre. The participants include: Valmiera common choir and conductor Irēna Zelča, Inga Zirne, Mārtiņš Klišāns, soloists: Kristians Kareļins, Baiba Rancāne, Madars Vanags, Liene Zvirbule, ethno kokles union under the guidance of Zane Sniķere and the Valmiera dancers (choreographer Linda Mīļā).

It will be a story about four natural elments, letting the audience feel the clarity, that is characteristic to pure water, the power of fire, the lightness of air and safety of land. The elements will be displayed by Liene Grava, Ģirts Bisenieks, Egija Abaroviča and Rūdolfs Gediņš.
